The Arewa Youth Assembly for Good Leadership (AYAGL) has lauded Bola Ahmed Tinubu for extending the tenure of the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ahmed Abubakar Audi, describing the decision as a demonstration of commitment to institutional continuity and national security.

In a statement signed by its president, Amb. Abdul DanBature, the group said the extension reflects the administration’s resolve to strengthen agencies responsible for safeguarding lives, property and critical national assets.

AYAGL noted that under Audi’s leadership, the NSCDC has recorded significant improvements in operational efficiency and public perception, citing enhanced protection of critical infrastructure, strengthened intelligence gathering, and improved collaboration with other security agencies.

The group further highlighted the Corps’ achievements in safeguarding oil and gas installations, curbing vandalism, tackling illegal mining and addressing emerging security threats across the country.

The youth organisation also commended President Tinubu for his directive to service chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri, describing the move as bold and strategic in confronting insecurity, particularly in the North-East.

According to the statement, the relocation is expected to improve coordination among security forces, boost rapid response and reinforce ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability in affected communities.

While acknowledging the administration’s efforts, AYAGL urged the president to intensify actions aimed at addressing the nation’s security and socio-economic challenges, noting that citizens’ expectations remain high.

The group also cautioned against politicising national security issues, urging the president to remain focused on delivering purposeful leadership, fostering unity and advancing policies that promote peace, development and prosperity.

It added that issues concerning the safety and well-being of Nigerians should remain above partisan considerations.

AYAGL further extended goodwill to the president and his family ahead of Eid al-Fitr, praying for continued wisdom and strength as he leads the country.

A coalition of northern youth groups has cautioned the Nigerian Senate against what it described as attempts to politically target former Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, over alleged discrepancies in the company’s audited financial statements.

The groups, led by the Arewa Youth Assembly for Good Leadership (AYAGL), issued the warning in a press statement on Saturday in Abuja in collaboration with the Forum for Youth Development, Unity and Peace Initiative and 21 other civil society organizations.

The statement, signed by the president of the assembly, Amb. Abdul Danbature, expressed concern over the decision by the Senate to summon Kyari in relation to alleged discrepancies amounting to ₦210 trillion in the financial records of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.

According to the groups, there has been a growing trend of blackmail and politically motivated accusations aimed at discrediting individuals who have served the country.

“We believe it is important to caution against the growing trend of blackmail, politically motivated accusations and deliberate attempts to discredit individuals who have served this country with dedication,” the statement said.

The youth groups insisted that Kyari demonstrated strong commitment to reforming Nigeria’s oil and gas sector during his tenure as head of the national oil company.

They cited several achievements under his leadership, including the transition of the former Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation into a limited liability company in line with the Petroleum Industry Act, the rehabilitation of Nigeria’s refineries, and efforts to improve transparency and monitoring in crude oil production.

The coalition also credited Kyari with expanding gas infrastructure, strengthening energy security and promoting local participation and youth engagement within the oil and gas industry.

The groups described the former NNPCL chief as a patriotic Nigerian who supported the policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at repositioning the country for sustainable economic growth.

They further noted that Kyari had consistently encouraged young Nigerians and supported youth leadership opportunities in strategic sectors of the economy.

“It is unfortunate that after years of service to the nation, attempts are now being made to drag his name into unnecessary controversies capable of distracting him from enjoying his well-deserved retirement,” the statement added.

While acknowledging the constitutional oversight powers of the Senate, the groups urged lawmakers to avoid using such powers for what they described as political witch-hunt or character assassination.

They also called on the Senate to concentrate on pressing national challenges, particularly insecurity affecting communities across northern Nigeria and other parts of the country.

The coalition urged Nigerians to treat the allegations against Kyari with caution and resist attempts by individuals or groups seeking to manipulate public opinion for personal or political interests.

The groups further appealed to relevant institutions to allow the former NNPCL chief to enjoy his retirement without harassment or undue distractions.

“Nigeria must always recognize and respect those who have dedicated their time and expertise to national service,” the statement concluded.

A civic advocacy group, Retirees Dignity Promoters (RDP), has criticised the Nigerian Senate over what it described as an attempt to harass former Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Mele Kyari, despite his record of reforms and transparency in the oil sector.

The group said it was troubling that the Senate committee probing alleged financial issues linked to the national oil company appears determined to overlook the unprecedented openness that characterised Kyari’s tenure.

In a statement signed by its Chairman Moses Epenyoung and issued in Abuja, RDP said Nigerians witnessed a historic shift during Kyari’s leadership when the oil giant began publishing detailed monthly financial and operational reports, openly disclosing revenues, remittances and expenditure — a practice that had never existed before.

“For decades, Nigerians knew virtually nothing about the income, operations and spending of the national oil company. That culture of secrecy changed under Kyari,” the group said.

RDP said it was therefore surprising that lawmakers were now ignoring that transparency legacy while resorting to threats of arrest warrants, a move the group described as politically coloured.

The group also recalled that when the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission invited Kyari last year over industry matters, he voluntarily honoured the invitation shortly after returning from an overseas trip, demonstrating that he had nothing to hide.

According to RDP, the Senate must avoid actions that create the impression of political intimidation, especially as the country gradually approaches another election season.

“Kyari helped open the books of Nigeria’s oil sector. He should be allowed to enjoy his retirement in peace,” the statement added.

The Arewa Youth Assembly for Good Leadership (AYAGL), in collaboration with 21 affiliate civil society organisations across Nigeria, has declared its support and solidarity with Northern youth leader, Nasiru Danu, describing him as a committed patriot and grassroots mobiliser.

In a press statement issued in Abuja on Thursday and signed by its president, Amb. Abdul Danbature, the group said Danu has continued to demonstrate loyalty to democratic ideals and national development.

The youth organisation noted that Danu has remained a strong supporter of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, adding that his dedication to national progress and grassroots empowerment is evident in his support for communities, particularly at the grassroots level.

AYAGL described Danu as a young, vocal and energetic mobiliser who has consistently stood for the interests of Nigerian youths and democratic values.

The group also commended the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, for recognising and working with credible young leaders such as Danu in advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration.

According to the statement, Danu is an astute grassroots mobiliser and a loyal member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who has consistently demonstrated commitment to the growth and stability of the ruling party and the country’s democratic process.

AYAGL further stated that it would resist any attempt by individuals or groups to undermine Danu through political manipulation or misinformation.

“As an organisation built on integrity and truth, we refuse to be used against Nasiru Danu or any leader who has demonstrated genuine commitment to the welfare of the people,” the statement said.

The group added that Danu remains a symbol of youth inclusion, grassroots mobilisation and democratic participation, noting that his support for the people and loyalty to his political party continue to inspire many young Nigerians.

AYAGL therefore called on Nigerians, particularly youths across the country, to continue supporting leaders who are committed to democratic ideals and national development.

“Nasiru Danu represents the very essence of youth inclusion in our political process,” the statement read. “He is not just a mobilizer; he is a bridge between the grassroots and the corridors of power, demonstrating an unwavering loyalty to democratic ideals and the progress of our nation.”

The coalition specifically highlighted Danu’s steadfast support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. They noted that his contributions extend beyond mere political rhetoric, manifesting in tangible support for community development and empowerment programs across the North.

The coalition, identifying itself as a body “built on integrity and truth,” issued a firm warning against any attempts to undermine Danu’s reputation or influence.

“We are fully aware of the potential for political manipulation and misinformation campaigns designed to sow discord. As an organization committed to the truth, we refuse to be used as a tool against Nasiru Danu or any leader who has demonstrated a genuine and consistent commitment to the welfare of the people. We will actively resist any such attempts,” Ambassador Danbature asserted.

The groups concluded by portraying Danu as a symbol of hope and a model for youth participation in governance. They called on all Nigerians, especially the youth, to continue to support and rally behind leaders who prioritize national development and the consolidation of democratic values.

Nigeria is set to commission its first-ever military jetty in Lagos, a landmark project by the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria–D7G (DICON-D7G) designed to boost local defence production and create over 7,000 jobs for retired officers and skilled civilians.

The facility, to be located near Tin Can Island Port, will serve as a strategic hub for importing, assembling, and exporting military equipment, marking a major step in Nigeria’s drive for defence self-reliance.

Speaking during an on-site assessment of the proposed jetty, DICON-D7G Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Osman Chennar, described the project as a “critical backbone infrastructure” for Nigeria’s defence industry.

“This jetty is not just a maritime structure; it is a strategic national asset,” Chennar said. “It will redefine how Nigeria sources, assembles, produces, and exports defence equipment. It is about efficiency, security, and national pride.”

Chennar explained that the facility will streamline the importation of Completely Knocked Down (CKD) and Semi-Knocked Down (SKD) components, raw materials, and other critical inputs required for domestic assembly of military hardware.

“At the moment, we rely heavily on third-party maritime logistics. With this dedicated military jetty, we will significantly cut down turnaround time, reduce demurrage costs, and secure our supply chain,” he said.

Once operational, the jetty will employ over 2,000 retired senior military officers alongside approximately 5,000 civilian engineers, welders, fabricators, drone specialists, and logistics personnel.

“We are deliberately integrating retired military personnel because they bring decades of operational knowledge and discipline,” Chennar noted.

“At the same time, we are opening doors for thousands of Nigerians in technical and engineering roles. This is defence industrialisation meeting job creation.”

The CEO added that the jetty will support local manufacturing and assembly of small and medium arms, ammunition, tactical drones, unmanned systems, anti-jammer drones, and 4×4 and 6×6 Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles.

DICON-D7G has already commenced production of DG103 rifles in Kaduna for both Nigerian and African markets.

“Our DG103 rifle production line is active. The next step is strengthening inbound and outbound logistics. This jetty closes that gap,” Chennar said.

“We are building a fully integrated defence production chain, from import of components to final assembly and export.”

Major General Mainasara Abdul Masanawa (retd.), a DICON-D7G board member, described the jetty as a turning point for Nigeria’s defence self-reliance.

“This facility will serve as both an import and export gateway,” Masanawa said.

“Beyond meeting local demand, Nigeria is positioning itself as a reliable defence manufacturing hub for friendly African nations. Every locally assembled rifle, drone, or armoured vehicle saves foreign exchange, builds expertise, and strengthens our security architecture against external supply shocks.”

Masanawa added that the project aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which promotes self-reliance, job creation, and economic diversification.

“This is not just a defence project; it is an economic project. It reflects a broader vision of industrial transformation under the Renewed Hope framework,” he said.

The military jetty is scheduled for official launch in June 2026 and is being positioned as a milestone in Nigeria’s journey from largely importing defence hardware to becoming a serious producer and exporter.

“History will remember this as the moment Nigeria moved decisively to establish a self-sustaining defence industrial base,” Chennar concluded.

The Arewa Youth Assembly for Good Leadership (AYAGL) has declared its solidarity with the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Abba Aliyu, citing what it described as his impactful leadership and significant strides in expanding rural electrification across Nigeria.

In a world press statement issued in Abuja on Monday, the youth group said its decision followed extensive consultations with Northern elders, youth leaders, and key stakeholders across the region.

According to the Assembly, Aliyu has demonstrated “uncommon commitment, transparency, and a results-driven leadership style” since assuming office, accelerating the implementation of renewable energy and rural electrification projects nationwide.

The group particularly commended the REA’s reported expansion of electricity access to underserved communities, noting that several projects under the current leadership have extended beyond rural households to critical public institutions such as hospitals, universities, and other essential facilities.

These interventions, it said, have contributed to improved healthcare delivery, enhanced educational outcomes, and increased economic productivity.

The Assembly further stated that available records and stakeholder observations indicate that Aliyu is the first head of the Agency to oversee electrification projects across all states in Northern Nigeria while simultaneously expanding implementation nationwide.

“These achievements deserve recognition and continued support,” the statement read, adding that the agency’s efforts align with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly in the areas of energy access, economic inclusion, and national development.

As a youth-driven movement, the group called on Northern youths and young Nigerians across the country, as well as civil society organisations and community leaders, to support ongoing efforts to deepen rural electrification and sustainable energy development.

The Assembly emphasised that energy access remains a critical driver of economic growth and social transformation, urging stakeholders to prioritise unity and constructive engagement in advancing national development goals.

It also reaffirmed its support for the leadership of the Rural Electrification Agency, encouraging Aliyu to remain focused and committed to expanding electricity access to rural communities, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and businesses across Nigeria.

A coalition of 21 Northern Nigeria youth organisations under the aegis of the Arewa Youth Assembly for Good Leadership (AYAGL) has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for adjusting the timetable for the 2027 General Elections from February to January 2027.

In a press statement issued on Thursday and signed by its President, Amb. Abdul Garba Danbature, the group described the decision as a “statesmanlike gesture” that strengthens democratic inclusion and national cohesion.

The youths said the adjustment, reportedly made in consideration of the proximity of the earlier February date to the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, demonstrates administrative foresight and sensitivity to Nigeria’s religious diversity.

According to the statement, the initial schedule could have posed logistical and participatory challenges for Muslim faithful observing the fasting period. “By revising the timetable, INEC has shown commitment to inclusivity and ensured that no segment of the population is inadvertently disadvantaged in exercising its constitutional rights,” the group stated.

The coalition noted that the decision followed appeals by several stakeholders, including the Sultan of Sokoto and the leadership of the Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria, as well as civic organisations across the country. It said the Commission’s responsiveness underscores the importance of constructive public engagement in a democratic system.

The group also defended the leadership of INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, saying the timetable adjustment reflects a balance between firmness in upholding the law and flexibility in accommodating legitimate concerns.

It called on Nigerians who may have expressed reservations about the INEC chairman’s appointment to reconsider their stance and support the Commission’s efforts to deliver credible and peaceful elections in 2027.

The statement further urged political actors and citizens alike to prioritise peace and unity, drawing inspiration from former Head of State, Abdulsalami Abubakar, whose advocacy for peaceful democratic transitions was described as enduring.

The youths also referenced the legacy of the late Premier of Northern Nigeria, Ahmadu Bello, noting his commitment to unity and cross-cultural engagement across religious and ethnic lines.

They stressed that peaceful coexistence and dialogue remain essential pillars for Nigeria’s democratic consolidation, urging stakeholders — including political parties, civil society organisations, religious institutions and youth groups — to focus on issue-based campaigns and lawful mobilisation ahead of the polls.

“The adjustment of the 2027 election timetable is not a concession to sectional interests but a reinforcement of national equity,” the statement added.

The coalition reaffirmed its confidence in INEC’s leadership and called on Nigerians to prepare for what it described as a peaceful, inclusive and credible electoral process.

A prominent political advocacy group, Operation 19 Million Votes, has warmly welcomed the recent appointment of Uba Sani, Governor of Kaduna State, as Deputy Director-General and Renewed Hope Ambassador in the All Progressives Congress (APC) mobilisation structure, saying the development is set to strengthen national confidence, deepen youth engagement and galvanise support for the party’s agenda ahead of the 2027 general elections.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as National Leader of the APC, on February 17, 2026, appointed Governor Sani to serve as Deputy Director-General (Deputy DG) of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors,a strategic outreach, engagement and mobilisation arm of the ruling party, in recognition of his “leadership and organisational abilities.” The appointment took effect immediately.

In a statement released by Operation 19 Million Votes today, the group described the appointment as timely and visionary, stating that Governor Sani’s political experience and grassroots appeal will be invaluable in strengthening the party’s footprint across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

According to the group’s national spokesperson, Comrade Haruna Musa Mohammed,the Renewed Hope Ambassadors initiative, which is charged with promoting the APC’s policy achievements and engaging citizens nationwide , requires leaders with broad national appeal, strategic insight, and credibility among diverse constituencies.

The appointment of Sani, who hails from the North West and enjoys bipartisan respect, was said to reflect a commitment to inclusive leadership. The elders and youth wings of the organisation further noted that Gov. Sani’s mobilisational capacities particularly among young voters and traditional leaders will be an asset in shaping favourable perceptions of governance programmes under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The statement further stated,”Operation 19 Million Votes emphasised that the renewed Hope Ambassadors structure must focus on substantive engagements on governance impact, job creation, security dialogue, and voter education, particularly at the grassroots and community levels , areas the group believes will determine electoral outcomes in 2027.
